We are looking for a future global leader to join Cookpad in Spain.

Cookpad is a tech company building a community platform that enables people to share recipe ideas and cooking tips. It’s a global platform used by on average around 100 million people every month across the world. Over 4 million recipes have been created by people in almost 70 countries. How we got started.

Our mission is to make everyday cooking fun. We believe we can build a better world through encouraging even more people to cook. Everyday, home cooking has a profound impact on ourselves and the world around us: it makes us healthier and connects us with our friends and family. Through solving the problems related to everyday cooking, we help people live happier and healthier lives in an environment that is more sustainable. That’s how we want to impact the world. Take a look at this article to learn more about Cookpad and our Medium blog to see what it is like to work at Cookpad.

Cookpad is one of Japan's best known tech companies, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and was already highly successful before launching globally in 2013. With strong backing we have spent the last few years building the global platform and we are now in our commercialisation phase of the business.

We launched Cookpad service in Spanish in 2014, and the Portuguese service followed in 2016. Growth is managed from our office in Alicante, Spain, supported by community management teams in 10 countries within Iberia and the Americas.

We are growing at speed and our goal is to be the number one recipe sharing platform in 100 countries by 2021. It’s an ambitious target which means we need to constantly adapt and enhance our service in response to feedback from our users.

We’re looking for exceptional people who make things happen. It takes a certain mix of creativity and ingenuity to create solutions on the scale we're looking for.

Requirements

Joining our team in Spain, the role of Project Lead - International Business Development is an exciting next step for someone who has completed intensive training in a top management consulting firm and now wants to make an impact on a global scale. You will get hands-on experience in a fast-growing, mission-driven global tech company.

Essential is at least 3-4 years professional experience in an international business context and fluency in spoken and written Spanish, English or at least one other language.

Working with the Spain leadership team, the role will be broad; encompassing strategy, insights and operations and acting as right hand to the leadership team as they build communities of users in our Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets. The focus will be on creating value through the user experience.

We currently offer the platform across 23 countries in Iberia and the Americas. While there are many similarities, each market is in a different stage of its lifecycle and therefore facing different challenges. As a consequence, you will be exposed to a broad set of challenges, for example how to improve our analytical capabilities in some more mature markets, how to bring best practices to the teams in markets we recently entered and how to accelerate the launch in some new markets we might enter.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be working closely together with the different country teams. You’ll help with the analysis, come up with pragmatic and sustainable solutions and work with teams to implement them. From day 1, you’ll be making a difference.

You will have the freedom to help us shape your role and your responsibilities, and we’ll expect you to spot business opportunities that we might otherwise miss.

The role is based in Spain, in your preferred major regional centre, and will involve international travel (circumstances allowing).

About you

Maybe you’ve worked in a start-up before and love working in an environment where anything is possible. Or maybe you come from a more corporate or consultancy background, accelerated your own learning and are looking for something completely different.

Here are the skills and traits we’re looking for:

  • You’re a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and can-do mindset, happy to roll your sleeves up and make things happen.
  • You’re a strong analytical thinker who loves solving challenging problems.
  • You are eager to work with the latest technology in a digital-native company.
  • You are interested in how cooking can have a profound impact on the everyday life of billions of people around the globe and on the planet.
  • You have at least 3-4 years of professional experience in an international business context.
  • You thrive in a high-pace, fast changing environment.
  • You’ve lived or worked overseas before and are open to extensive travel (conditions permitting)
  • Preferably native in Spanish, near-native in written and spoken English and ideally one other language.

Benefits

Ask everyone who works at Cookpad what we love about working here and the answer is: being part of the mission and our colleagues. Expect to work with people who are passionate about and committed to the mission: we challenge ourselves and each other to do the best work we can.

We offer competitive salaries and support you in your development.

What happens next?

We’re building a global company with a global team that’s full of world-class talent. Our hiring process is designed to let your talent shine and for us to get to know each other so we know we’re the right fit.

When we receive your application, it’s reviewed to see if your experience and skills are a match for what we’re looking for in the role. If they are, one of our HR team will get in touch.

You will meet with members of the country and regional teams to offer you deeper insight into the topics you might be working on and assess if your experience and personality could be a good fit for this role. Some of these interviews will be based on real-life Cookpad case studies. During COVID-19, all interviews will be via a video link.

Equal Opportunity

The Cookpad team is made up of an incredible, diverse range of people. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, colour, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, marital status or any other legally protected status.

Your Privacy

When applying for a job with Cookpad, we will collect personal data about you. We use that personal data for recruitment and hiring related activities, including analysis of those activities. Such processing is legally permissible under Art. 6(1)(f) of the General EU Data Protection Regulation and UK GDPR as necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests, which are the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of applicants for employment.

You can read more about how we use your personal data in our privacy policy, as well as your data protection rights. If you are an applicant from Europe, you can read our privacy policy here. If you are an applicant from a country other than Europe, you can read our privacy policy here.
